Newstars Futbol Academy (NFA) is fully committed to protecting the safety, welfare, and rights of all children participating in our programs. This policy reflects Canada Soccer’s Safe Sport standards and establishes clear expectations for the mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse to law enforcement and child protection authorities. Every staff member, coach, volunteer, parent, and player has a responsibility to uphold this policy and take action when concerns arise.
Mandatory Reporting Obligation
All individuals associated with NFA—including coaches, staff, volunteers, and parents—who suspect or have reasonable grounds to believe that a child may be experiencing abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual) or neglect must immediately report their concerns to law enforcement or the appropriate child protection agency.
NFA personnel are not responsible for investigating or confirming the suspicion. All concerns must be reported directly to the proper authorities, who will conduct the assessment.
What to Report
Reports should be made when any of the following occur:
- A child discloses or communicates experiences of abuse or inappropriate behavior.
- Physical injuries or concerning behaviors are observed that may indicate abuse or neglect.
- Suspected misconduct by a coach, staff member, volunteer, parent, or player that may compromise a child’s safety.
- Inappropriate or concerning digital or online communication involving a child.
Reporting Procedure
1. Immediate Action
Any suspected child abuse must be reported right away to local law enforcement or child protection authorities.
2. Academy Notification
After filing the report, the individual must notify NFA’s designated Child Protection Officer for documentation and any required follow-up.
3. Confidentiality
All reports will be handled with strict confidentiality to protect both the child and the person making the report.
4. Non-Retaliation
No one will face retaliation for making a good-faith report of suspected abuse.
Legal Compliance and Canada Soccer Alignment
- This policy adheres to Canada Soccer’s Safe Sport framework and all applicable federal and provincial child protection laws.
- NFA will provide ongoing training and education to ensure all personnel can recognize, prevent, and report child abuse effectively.
- Failure to report suspected abuse is a violation of this policy and may result in disciplinary action, including removal from academy duties.
Commitment to Child Safety
Newstars Futbol Academy is dedicated to ensuring a secure, supportive environment for every young athlete. By enforcing this mandatory reporting policy, we take proactive steps to protect children and uphold Canada Soccer’s commitment to Safe Sport. All members of NFA must remain vigilant, responsible, and engaged in safeguarding the well-being of our athletes.
