Newstars Futbol Academy successfully completed the Responsible Coaching Movement Pledge on Sunday Nov 16 2025, and has been added to the listing on Coach.ca.
As part of this commitment, we pledge to align our practices with Phase 1 of the Responsible Coaching Movement, ensuring the safety and well-being of our athletes and coaches.
RESPONSIBLE COACHING MOVEMENT
To uphold the principles of the NCCP’s Responsible Coaching Movement, Newstars Futbol Academy has implemented the following policies and procedures to protect both athletes and coaches.
RULE OF TWO POLICY
• A screened Newstars FA Coach, Volunteer Coach, Assistant Coach, or Manager must always have another screened team official or the player’s parent/guardian present in situations where they may be alone with a registered Newstars FA player (e.g., locker rooms or meeting rooms).
• Coaches should never be alone and out of eyesight with a child. All one-on-one interactions must take place within earshot and view of a second coach or manager, except in medical emergencies.
• At least one coach present must be the same gender as the athlete.
• If a second screened and certified coach is unavailable, a screened volunteer, parent, or adult may be recruited.
• Team Officials should not transport athletes alone unless another adult is present or prior written parental permission has been obtained.
BACKGROUND SCREENING
• All competitive team officials must apply for each season and provide three reference checks.
• After review, applicants must complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) and submit it to Newstars Futbol Academy.
• Upon approval, VSS must be renewed every three (3) years.
ETHICS TRAINING
• All competitive coaches must complete ethics training to prepare them for situations involving individuals, teams, and the organization.
• Successful completion of both the Making Ethical Decisions (MED) and Respect in Sport courses is mandatory.
• Completion of the Commit to Kids online training course is strongly encouraged.
